Here we are going to dive deep into MovieFlix. Flix is short of the flick which means a short movement. Moviesflix is all those transitions and cuts which are used in movie making. Moviesflix is used in movie scenes in both audio and video forms.
MoviesFlix Cutting On Action
Cutting from one shot to another while the subject is still in motion.
It does not always need to be a punch or a kick. It could be as simple as a character turning or throwing something or a character going throw a door.
Cutaway
I can best describe cut away as cutting into an instant shot of something and then back.
It could exist in the same space as the characters or you can use cut a way to get inside the head of a character.
CrossCut
This is when the editor intercuts back and forth between locations. Most phone conversations are cross-cut. Cross-cutting can certainly maintain the attention and suspense of a sequence. This technique is also used to show what is going on inside the character’s head.

Jump Cut
Jump Cut is When the editor cuts between the same shot. It is often used to deliberately show the passing of time. Jump Cuts are also used to add urgency in the scenes. And there is a lot of jump cuts in baseball and cricket-like games.
Match Cut
Match Cuts are often mistakenly referred to as Jump Cuts however there is a difference. Match Cut Cuts from one shot to a similar shot by either matching the action of the composition.
Match Cuts are often used to sync transitions because they are mostly jumping from one place to another. That’s why it creates confusion on the matter.
Match cuts do not always have to be visual either. There are verbal match cuts as well.
Now let’s move on to Transitions.
Fade In Fade Out
We have observed thousands of times and it’s just dissolving either to or from black. Pretty self-explanatory.
Dissolve
Dissolve is when you blend one shot into another. They can represent the passing of time.
You can easily dissolve between the same shots.
Smash Cuts
Smash Cuts are broad transitions. The obvious example is someone is waking from an intense dream or a nightmare. Going from something intense to quiet or quiet to intense.
IRIS
IRIS is another transition. It used to be an in-camera effect back in the days when you could manually open and close the iris of the camera to do transitions from or to black. But nowadays it is used as a stylistic choice. A lot of these kinds of transitions you can find within a scene.
WIPE
WIPE transition is something like wiping. It is used to wipe out a scene within a scene. There are many types of wipes.
Invisible Cut

Invisible cuts are used to give the impression of a single take however cuts are hidden in a blacklist. You can hide the cut in motion of the camera movement.
An editor might also have a cut on an object crossing a frame. Or you can hide a cut when the subject leaves a frame. Just like any good magic trick.
L-Cut
L-Cut is an audio-based transition. This is when the audio from the current shot is carried to the next shot.
This is used all the time even when the characters are talking to each other.
J-Cut
J-Cut is when the audio of the next scene starts before you get to it. So you hear what is going on before you see what is going on.
These are very crafted editing techniques that people might not even notice. And that’s the point.
The J-Cuts and L-Cuts are specifically designed to maintain a smooth flow. A smooth transition from one scene to another with audio guiding the way.
The J-Cut is also good for revealing a new element within a scene.
Creative Cuts
When you know about all available cuts then you start mixing them and matching them to create some creative Cuts like a Match J-Cut or a Verbal Match J-Cut or Cross-Cutting Cut Away or Cut Away Jump Cuts or Cross-Cutting Match Cut.
